Psychoacoustics defines timbre as tone colour and timbre differentiates two sounds of the same frequency allowing for a specifically defined sound from each, despite the pitch and notes being the same.  In the same way, the material used to define a particular colour can create a particular timbre that differentiates it from another material making the same colour.

Mestitz explores the perceptual qualities of colour using her own produced medium – polyurethane, acrylic, pigments and tints – to create specific timbres and effects.

In the instance of the work Luxfluxlux I wished to explore lux(light) and flux (change or movement) and achieve a timbre by sanding back through layers in areas to give a sense of texture like a warm sound between bands of silver fluctuating light.
